Chester Racecourse Style and Trend Report

When you think about a day at Chester Races, one of the first things that springs to mind is the raceday fashion. Motivations to attend a raceday are as much about competing in the style stakes as the spectating and racegoers take time, effort and pride in planning for a spectacular day at the races.

With choice in abundance, a carefully selected ensemble is integral to a winning day. From  three-piece impressive suits, to elegant dresses and stunning jumpsuits to fashionable blazers, high street to high-end boutiques are brimming with options.

There are now only four meetings left in the Chester racing season and with the seasons changing and new autumn-winter ranges on the cards, we thought it opportune to look back over the most popular trends of the season so far and get racegoers thinking about that perfect race day outfit.

Chester Racecourse - The Most Popular Outfit Style

Midi dresses, maxi dresses, jumpsuits and trouser suits, we’ve seen it all at the races so far this season, but which outfit style won the hearts of our racegoers?

It may have originated in the 90s, but the bodycon dress is still a classic with its sleek silhouette, promoting fashion fierceness amongst racegoers.

Form-fitting with lots of stretch in the fabric, the dress that was specifically designed to enhance the hourglass figure was adorned by 14.63% of our guests.

Other favourites from this year include: the elegant maxi dress (14.15%), the chic off-shoulder dress (11.71%) and the oh-so hot peplum dress (10.24%).

The right choice of colour is as important as the style of raceday outfit. A complimentary or stand-out hue can make a statement and compliment your overall ensemble at the same time.

From cool tones to block brights, which colours made racegoers dazzle in the crowd this season?

With summer in full swing and the racing season underway, little white dresses were popping up everywhere at Chester Racecourse. The white dress was a clear spring and summer staple, creating a simplistic, crisp, clean lookand proved the outfit colour of choice for over 19% of racegoers.

Close behind was the ever popular little black dress (LBD) with 15.02%, followed by floral design at 14.02% and a blue toned outfit at 11.96%.

If you thought race day fashion was only competitive for the women, think again. The fashion stakes have never been higher for the men, as our men's best-dressed competition attracts more and more entries each year. So which styles did the men turn out in this year?

Often when it comes to men’s fashion, simplicity can pull a punch over creatvitiy. We think the men agreed, as 25.76% of men chose a stylish plain suit for their race day outfit.

Close behind was the more daring three piece suit at 18.18%, followed by the great tailoring of a patterned suit at 12.88% and the more relaxed approach of a shirt and chino combo at 11.36%.
