The Fireworks Return to Chester Racecourse this NovemberPublished on 24 September 2019
The Lord Mayor’s Fireworks Extravaganza will take place at Chester Racecourse on Saturday 2 November 2019.
The event will begin at 5pm, when gates will open to welcome members of the public onto the racecourse. Two displays will entertain the crowds, a children’s display at 6:45pm and the main display at 7:30pm.
Capital North West & North Wales Drivetime presenter Ben Sheppard will host the evening from the commentary box, play music to the crowds throughout the evening and lead the all-important display countdowns.
In addition to the fireworks on the night, there will be a fairground located across the track and plenty of food and beverage outlets from which to purchase drinks and snacks. The White Horse garden will be open to anyone with a ticket and feature a BBQ offering and fully stocked bar.
The ‘Kids Zone’ in the Dee Stand will have additional free activities for youngsters aged 10 and under, including glow in the dark face painting and lantern making.
Tickets cost £5 when bought in advance (children aged four and under get in free), but can also be purchased on the gate for £6.
Event Partners Cheshire West and Chester Council and The Architect will once again support the running of the event, whilst money raised from the sale of tickets to this not-for-profit event will go three charity beneficiaries on the night; Share, Chester Lions and The Lord Mayor’s Charity.
Chief Executive of Chester Race Company Richard Thomas said:
“We’re pleased to be bringing another fireworks extravaganza back to the racecourse, with the support of our event partners Cheshire West and Chester Council and The Architect. Last year 8,200 spectators enjoyed a fantastic event, with almost £10,000 raised for charitable causes in a true amalgamation of community spirit and collaborative working with our fellow city-centre stakeholders. We look forward to another show-stopping night this year and the opportunity to further support our charity partners through the generosity of the visiting public.”
The Lord Mayor of Chester, Councillor Mark Williams said:
“Fireworks at the racecourse are a firm family favourite and I’m delighted that this year is the Lord Mayor’s Fireworks Extravaganza, supported by the Chester Charter Trustees. Professionally organised displays are by far the best and safest way to watch fireworks. Please join me for what will be a fantastic event that also supports the Lord Mayor’s Charity.”
A bucket collection will also be conducted on the night by Share’s team of volunteers, who will be positioned across and around the periphery of the racecourse. Proceeds raised from donations and the sale of tickets will go towards providing help and support for homeless people across Cheshire, Flintshire and further afield.
Debra Webb, Chairperson, Share Board of Trustees said:
“We are thrilled to be partnering with Chester Racecourse once again on this fantastic event and as part of a new wider annual initiative, in which the racecourse will be supporting us with numerous events and projects into 2020. The support of the racecourse has enabled us to commit much needed funds and resource to our pledge to support homeless communities and the most vulnerable people in society.
“We are a local charity, managed by local volunteers, providing humanitarian aid to the homeless and those in need across Cheshire, Flintshire, and the refugee camps across Europe. Our work with the homeless, refugees and many other vulnerable people is funded solely by the generous donations of the people of Chester and Flintshire and we are sure that everyone will once again get behind this event and make it a huge success.”
