Tote Multiples for Convenience

Doubles and Trebles are now available on-course. Simply select the horses you wish to back in two or three races at the same meeting.

If your horse wins in the first race, your winnings will automatically be rolled over into the second race and so on.

Types of Tote Bets

Single Race Tote Bets

Win: Select the winner of the race.

Place: Pick a horse to secure a spot. The number of places depends on the number of runners.

Standard place terms.

Number of runners

4 or less: win only

5, 6 or 7: 1st & 2nd

8 or more:1st, 2nd or 3rd

Handicap with 16 or more: 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th

Each Way: Get double the action with a Win and a Place bet on the same horse.

Exacta: Nail the 1st and 2nd in the correct order. Or go for a reverse Exacta, where your two selections can finish 1st and 2nd in any order.

Trifecta: Predict the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the right order. Alternatively, try a combination Trifecta, where your selections can finish 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in any order.

Swinger: Pick two horses and have three chances to win – with payouts if they finish either 1st and 2nd, 1st and 3rd or 2nd and 3rd.

Multi Race Tote Bets

Placepot: The most popular bet – pick a placed horse in the first six races.

Quadpot: Similar to the Placepot, choose a placed horse in races 3, 4, 5, and 6.

Multiples: Doubles & Trebles: Available on Win, Place or Each Way bets. Combine selections of your choice from two or three races at a single meeting.

Jackpot: Feel the thrill by picking the winner of the first six races at one selected race meeting.

For single race bets you can simply call over the details of your selection at any of the Tote positions around the racecourse as follows:

Race number
Your stake
The type of bet e.g. Win or Each Way
Horse number

For example, Race 1; £5 Win; Number 3 (Lucky Boy).

For multi-leg bets you can still call over the details or fill in the helpful betting slips located near the Tote betting positions with your stake, horse numbers and bet type.

Make sure to check your tickets before heading off to watch the race. If your bet wins return to any Tote position to collect your winnings, once the result has been made official.

You’ve got your tickets, your outfit’s sorted, and your journey’s planned – now it’s time to get clued up on the racing action!

Final runners and riders are confirmed 48 hours before the race. You can check them online or in the Racing Post or simply pick up an Official Chester Racecard on the day.

You can also download Raceday Ready to access a free digital racecard that will update throughout the day with prices, tips, non-runners, results and dividends for every race.

Once you’re in, use the map to explore the course – from buzzing bars to the Parade Ring. Be sure to swing by the main Parade Ring before the races start, where our raceday MC and tipster will share their top tips, updates, and what to look out for.

There are Tote betting positions throughout the racecourse, or if you are in hospitality, you will may be able to place bets at your table with a betting Courier.

Placing a bet

Throughout the racecourse, you will find Tote betting positions.

Tote offers pool betting means the money from all bets are put into a pool, and payouts are determined by dividing the total amount in the pool by the number of winning bets. The Tote offer the ‘Tote Guarantee’ which means they will pay the higher price of the Win pool dividend or the industry starting price, which applies on all Win bets and the Win part of Each-Way bets.

There are also find independent bookmakers on-course.

How old do I have to be to have a bet?
Anyone wishing to place a bet must be 18 years of age.

Who can I place a bet with at Chester?
There are Tote positions throughout the racecourse, along with some independent bookmakers.

Can I take the odds?
You can take the odds with one of the independent bookmakers. When you place a bet you will receive the odds on display at the time your bet is taken. Although you can’t take the odds with the Tote, they do offer the ‘Tote Guarantee’ which means they will pay the higher price of the Win pool dividend or the industry starting price, which applies on all Win bets and the Win part of Each-Way bets. This means the Tote Win price is never beaten by the bookmaker starting price.

How much is the minimum stake?
The minimum bet with the Tote is £2. You can pay using cash, a UK debit card or mobile pay.

Are there betting facilities in every enclosure?
Yes, there are betting facilities in every enclosure.

Is there a Betting Shop at Chester?
We no longer have a betting shop on-course.

How do I collect my winnings from Tote?
On a raceday you are able to collect your Tote winnings from any Tote position after the race has ‘weighed-in’. All bets with bookmakers have to be collected with the firm the bet was placed. If you are unable to collect any winnings from Tote on the day, you can collect them from a Tote position on any British racecourse or send the original ticket along with your full contact and payment details to:

How long do I have to collect my winnings?
You have 53 weeks from the date of the race to collect and winnings.

Do I get my money back if my horse doesn’t run?
Yes, if your horse is deemed a non-runner by the Stewards then a refund will be given.
