We’re making race days more sustainable by introducing reusable cups across the racecourse.

You’ll notice that drinks are now served in One Cup reusable cups, a simple change that helps reduce waste and environmental impact, without affecting your enjoyment of the day.

How it works Buy your first drink

When you purchase your first drink, a £1 cup hire charge is added to the price. This covers the cost of washing and reuse.

Enjoy your drink

Your cup is part of a carbon-neutral reusable cup system, with all emissions from manufacture and transport offset through UK tree planting.

Swap as you go

When you’re ready for another drink, simply return your cup at the bar and you’ll be given a clean one with your new purchase. No need to keep hold of the same cup all day.

Please dont take your cup home

Returning your cup to the bins around the racecourse allows it to be washed and reused again, helping us cut down on single-use plastic and helping Chester Racecourse become climate positive by 2039.

Why we're doing this?

In 2039, Chester Racecourse will mark its 500th anniversary. Roodee 500 is Chester Race Company’s long-term commitment to reach Climate Positivity by 2039, ensuring the world’s oldest racecourse has a sustainable future.

Introducing reusable cups is one of the practical steps we’re taking to support this goal. By reducing single-use plastic, cutting waste during major fixtures, and working with sustainable partners like One Cup, we’re making meaningful changes that contribute to our long-term environmental ambitions.
