The ever-popular Ibiza Classics Evening returned to the Roodee in July 2026, with punters and partygoers arriving in their thousands. The feature race came in the ESL Export Handicap (Class 3), on a night where three jockeys were at the double. Ground conditions were described as Good (Good to Firm in places) throughout.

The Excell Supply EBF Restricted Novice Stakes

Building on his recent debut run at Chester, Towelontheterrace (10/1) came home a ready winner of the opening race of the night, keeping on by 1 ¾ lengths for Jason Hart and Jennie Candlish. Sharply across from Stall 8, Towelontheterrace set a solid tempo out in front from an early stage, holding sway from True Charm (16/1) as they rounded the home turn. Despite coming under pressure with just over a furlong to go, the leader proved tough to pass in the closing stages, and with no challenges coming from behind, Towelontheterrace ran on well to post a 10^th flat winner of the year for Jennie Candlish!

The Moxy Chester EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes

Having finished an honourable ninth at Royal Ascot last time out, Crownright (8/15F) proved to be a class above in the second race, ridden out to score by 1 ¼ lengths for Rossa Ryan and Ralph Beckett. Keen to set the pace, Crownright was never out of first place through the opening mile of Race 2, always a couple of lengths ahead of Brighton Beach (3/1) as Summerson (9/2) laboured in third. Entering the final quarter mile, the leader soon had the race put to bed in the home straight, quickening well ahead of the staying-on Summerson to secure a fourth career victory at Chester for Rossa Ryan!

The CAA Stellar Nursery Handicap Stakes

Despite being the outsider of the field, Dave Loughnane’s Kach Above (14/1) defied the odds to run out a taking winner of Race 3, ridden away by 1 ½ lengths to land a double for Rossa Ryan. Slowly away after an awkward exit from the starting stalls, Kach Above raced towards the back of the quartet through the halfway point, the lead occupied by Donegal Rose (11/4), ahead of Cash Cove (6/4F) and The Ginger Kid (9/4). Switched wide around Castle Bend however, it was Kach Above that stayed on best of all, kicking clear a furlong out and keeping on stoutly to score. Another smart one to look forward to for Dave Lowe, the winning owner also scored here with star sprinter Kachy in 2018!

The ESL Export Handicap Stakes

Another to spring a surprise, King’s Code (18/1) came right back to form when landing the feature race of the night, expertly handled by John Egan to score by 1 ¼ lengths for trainer David Evans. A touch keen through the opening mile, King’s Code was never too far away from the pacesetters, slipstreaming Nolton Cross (25/1) and Patagonia Girl (9/1) throughout. Still travelling well with two furlongs to go, King’s Code was pushed forward by Egan when a timely gap opened between the two leaders. Now in the clear, the plucky six-year-old stayed on impressively in the closing stages, just doing enough to see off Infraad (8/13F) and land veteran rider John Egan a 54^th winner on the Roodee!

The John Smith's Handicap Stakes

An admirably consistent sort, Top Juggler (13/8F) just about managed to reward his supporters in the fifth race, holding on by a neck to score for Dale Swift and Seb Spencer. Prominent from the outset, Top Juggler raced in second place throughout Race 5, sitting no more than a length behind Roodee regular Rosenpur (11/4) through the halfway point. Moving with promise rounding the home turn, Top Juggler responded well for pressure entering the final furlong and a half, waiting for the gaps to open before staying on powerfully to fend off Supreme King (5/1) in a close finish. A landmark day for the Yorkshireman, this win marked a first victory at Chester for trainer Seb Spencer!

The Fired Up Tess Handicap Stakes

Well handicapped on his all-weather form, Ivan Furtado’s Alfa Whiteburd (9/4F) readily landed his first win on turf when successful in the sixth race, careering away by 8 lengths to secure a double for Jason Hart. Away smartly, Alfa Whiteburd soon made his way into an established lead through the early stages, racing around a length ahead of Trust Sergei (15/2) and How Impressive (10/1). Travelling strongly through halfway, it was soon a matter of “how far” for Alfa Whiteburd, the leader kicking well clear of the opposition around the turn and bounding clear up the straight to score impressively. Always in flying form on the Roodee, Jason Hart has now bagged 34 winners at Chester!

The Fired Up Tess Handicap Stakes

Ending a losing sequence of 17 runs, Philip Kirby’s Kings Merchant (5/1) had to pull out all the stops to win the final race of the evening, edging home by a short head to land a double for Dale Swift. Content to sit towards the rear, Kings Merchant raced with only one behind for the majority of the seventh race, travelling smoothly as King Of War (3/1) set the pace up front. Ridden along with two furlongs to go, Kings Merchant began to make his move under Dale Swift, switching to the outside before motoring home down the centre of the track to snatch a late victory. A jockey with plenty of experience, Dale Swift also won Haydock Park’s Superior Mile (Group 3) aboard Top Notch Tonto in 2013!
