The Allington Hughes Law Bicentenary Amateur Jockey's Handicap Stakes

Produced under a lovely ride from amateur jockey Miss Amy Milburn, Mission Command (16/1) ran out a comfortable 1 ¾ length winner of the opener, landing the spoils for trainer Jennie Candlish. Taking a keen hold from the outset, Mission Command raced in third place throughout the first race, pulling hard in the slipstream of market leader Lord Capulet (7/2F). Ridden for more around the home turn, Mission Command picked up smartly in the final furlong, edging past Lord Capulet and readily seeing out the 7f trip to secure just a second career victory for jockey Miss Amy Milburn!

The Juddmonte EBF Restricted Novice Stakes

Improving from a recent debut at Chepstow, Metamouse (7/2) readily secured a stylish 2 ¾ length victory in the second race, coasting home under Hector Crouch for the Dave Loughnane team. Patiently ridden throughout, Metamouse kept his powder dry through a messy opening half mile, market leader Belardo Ace (11/4JF) hanging badly right and soon pulling himself up before the home turn. Waiting for room before switching wide off the bend, Metamouse quickly found his stride in the closing stages, staying on stoutly to see off his rivals in impressive style. Very successful of late, Dave Loughnane also won a Group 3 at Epsom last week with former Chester winner Sparks Fly!

The Danny and Harriett Birthday Bash Handicap Stakes

Making the long trip up from Newmarket proved no hinderance to Morbeh (15/8f) in the third race, the progressive 3-year-old keeping on well to score by a length for Cieren Fallon and Roger Varian. Held up in the early stages, Morbeh travelled smoothly in amongst horses, racing alongside Asia Force (8/1) as Silver State (5/2) set the pace. Making eye-catching progress around the home turn, it didn’t take long for Morbeh to hit full flight in the final quarter mile, ranging up to Silver State at the furlong marker before sticking on resolutely to secure a 51st winner of the season for jockey Cieren Fallon!

The Allington Hughes Law Handicap Stakes

Coming out on top in a thrilling photo-finish, Crazee Icon (3/1F) did just enough to land the odds for favourite backers in Race 4, edging home by a short-head for Jason Watson and Andrew Balding. Always in rear, Crazee Icon was left with plenty to do from flag-fall, racing in last place as course winner Ubetterseethis (6/1) led the way. Still in last as the leaders swung into the straight, Crazee Icon began to make his move just over a furlong from home, and after a gap opened up between Runswick (7/2) and Vidmiyr (7/2), the consistent 3-year-old flew home to snatch victory towards the line. A team in good form, Watson and Balding also won the 143rd Italian Derby last week with Venetian Prince!

The Allington Hughes Law Handicap Stakes

A horse in fine form, Miss Lady Grace (10/11F) recorded her second victory in 7 days when successful in the fifth race, cosily seeing off her rivals by 1 ½ lengths for Alex Egan and Dan Horsford. Racing in the centre of a well-bunched field, Miss Lady Grace was never too far away from the action in Race 5, sitting around a length behind Master Of Entropy (8/1). Switched to the inside rail as the leaders entered the home straight, Miss Lady Grace was not for catching in the final furlong, merely having to be nudged out towards the line to secure the win for Alex Egan; a third winner from her last seven rides!

The Chester Fillies' Handicap Stakes

Third or better in her previous five runs, Star Cast (5/2) continued her consistent form to secure the sixth race in emphatic style, coming home an easy 7-length winner for Joanna Mason and Gemma Tutty. In a share of fourth place aboard Star Cast, Mason was content enough to allow runaway leader Lady Ridgewood (40/1) to set the pace in the early stages, sitting towards the inside passing the three-furlong marker. Rousted along to get on terms, Star Cast made considerable headway around the home bend, and as Lady Ridgewood began to wave the white flag, Star Cast showcased a stylish turn of foot to clear away and land a 30th winner of the season for Joanna Mason!

The Allington Hughes 200 Year Anniversary Celebrations

Possibly benefitting from a recent gelding operation, Start Me Up (16/1) bounced right back to form when taking the seventh race, holding on by ¾ of a length to score for George Wood and Richard Spencer. Despite an alert beginning, Start Me Up raced in rear for much of the penultimate contest, unable to get on terms with the principals as the well-backed Dolos Dream (9/4) led them home. Ridden along with two furlongs to go, it didn’t look too hopeful for Start Me Up at one stage. However, switched wide off the bend, Start Me Up began to motor once in the clear, flying down the outside of the leaders on his way to landing a third winner of the day for owner Phil Cunningham!

The Tom Jones At Chester Racecourse Handicap Stakes

Switched to his third trainer in as many years, Not Me (16/1) finally got off the mark under rules with a determined victory in the finale, squeezing home by ¾ of a length to score for Hector Crouch and Alan Brown. Always prominent, Not Me raced in a tightly knit bunch just behind Dapper Gee Gee (100/30) in the early stages, still full of running as the field headed into their final quarter mile. Waiting for the gaps to appear, Hector Crouch pushed Not Me towards the stands rail off the home turn, and after hitting the front a furlong out, the new leader had just enough left in the tank to secure the win. A jockey on the rise, Hector Crouch had a career-best season in 2025, riding 157 winners!
