Matthew Clark Ladies Day FAQ’s

Matthew Clark Ladies Day FAQ’s

Is the one-way system still in place in Chester?

Yes, the clockwise one-way system is still in place in Chester City Centre. We recommend you leave plenty of time on raceday as this system causes long traffic delays in and around the city.

Which roads are closed?

There will be road closures in place on New Crane Street, Lower Watergate Street and Nuns Road from 9am on race day. This closure is to ensure the safety of racegoers. Chester also has a city-wide, one-way clockwise traffic system in place due to major works – please follow all directional signage and leave plenty of time to make your journey. For traffic updates please visit Chester and Cheshire West council website at https://www.cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk/residents/transport-and-roads/highways/live-roadworks.aspx

What should I know about arrival and traffic?

Chester Racecourse is easily reachable via car and is sign-posted from all major routes. The M53, M56, M6 and A483 are all in close proximity to Chester providing excellent links from Liverpool, Manchester, North Wales and the south of England.

There are likely to be long queues around the racecourse due to general city traffic and racegoers travelling to the racecourse. Please leave early and give plenty of time to get to the racecourse. We cannot control the road closures/traffic and you may risk missing the first race if you do not leave in time. We also encourage racegoers to use public transport where possible to reduce the number of vehicles on the roads in Chester.

Those visiting the racecourse by car should follow the temporary yellow signage in place on approach to the city of Chester to reach the racecourse. We recommend that you do not input the Chester Racecourse postcode (CH1 2LY) into your Sat Nav, but instead approach from Sealand Road (to the West of the city) using postcode CH1 4LD. For traffic updates please visit Chester and Cheshire West council website at https://www.cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk/residents/transport-and-roads/highways/live-roadworks.aspx

Which is the best way to get to the racecourse?

We highly recommend racegoers to use public transport on raceday. The racecourse is located in the city centre, therefore it is well serviced by Park & Ride, bus routes, and train services. Due to council road closures and major roadworks in the city centre, we do not recommend that people arrive via car.
