Crowds flocked to Chester Racecourse this week for the Boodles May Festival, providing an increase in ticket sales of 11% year-on-year. A fantastic three days at the Roodee, with a total crowd of 39,197, was topped off with East India Dock winning the highlight race on the card, the Ladbrokes Chester Cup, this afternoon.
Louise Stewart, CEO of Chester Racecourse, commented “It’s been fantastic to see almost 40,000 racegoers enjoying the thrilling racing on offer over the past three days. We take great pride in the experience we deliver for our guests, and I’m delighted that our hard work has been rewarded with the highest total attendance across the three days since Covid.
“Hospitality was sold out on both Thursday and Friday, and operations have run smoothly throughout, so I’m very pleased with how everything has gone. My thanks go to the entire team for their efforts.
“It’s been a pleasure to host such competitive racing and to welcome so many Owners and Trainers to the course. Aidan O’Brien’s three-year-olds have been particularly impressive in the Epsom Oaks and Derby Trials, and we look forward to following the progress of Mount Kilimanjaro, Lambourn and Minnie Hauk as they continue their careers in the Classics this season.
“A highlight for many was local favourite Roman Dragon’s sixth win at Chester, alongside East India Dock taking the honours in the Ladbrokes Chester Cup earlier this afternoon. We now look ahead to our next fixture, Roman Day, at the end of the month.”
The opening day of the Boodles May Festival was Trials Day, followed by Ladies Day yesterday and Ladbrokes Chester Cup Day today. Chester’s next meeting is on Saturday 31st May with a total of 12 remaining fixtures over the course of the season. There is something for everyone at the Roodee this summer with the majority of the fixtures on a Friday or Saturday.
