Chester Racecourse is calling on families to gather the troops and canter down for an action-packed day of fun that pays tribute to the city’s iconic Roman history.
Taking place on Saturday 31 May, Roman Day features a mix of thrilling horseracing and exciting activities for young racegoers, as well as appearances from special guest Zog, the loveable dragon from Julia Donaldson’s bestselling books.
More than 17,000 racegoers are expected to descend on Chester Racecourse for Roman Day, including over 2,000 children who will be able to enjoy the event line-up for free, including Roman stunt shows, archery, bootcamp challenges, inflatable slides and a bungee run.
The jam-packed agenda ensures the whole family can soak up the fun, including birds of prey, a pop-up play village, and craft camp, as well as a heritage festival, camp curiosity, racing to school, and performances from arts organisation and charity foundation, AmaSing.
Roman Day follows a record-breaking Boodles May Festival, which kicked off the racing season earlier this month. Total attendance was up 11% on last year, with hospitality and premium general admission tickets sold out for Thursday and Friday.
Sam Martin, Head of Marketing and Communications at Chester Racecourse, said: “Roman Day is always a calendar highlight – it wouldn’t be a racing season at Chester without it!
“We pride ourselves on offering affordable, unforgettable experiences to suit every taste, and look forward to welcoming families to the first of many family fun days this year, after a record Boodles May Festival!
“The three-day festival was incredible, with the biggest crowd we’ve had since Covid and attendance figures bucking industry trends.
“Early signs for the rest of the year are positive, and our team are working hard to create a memorable day out for our visitors, which we are sure Roman Day will be once again.”
Children under 17 can attend Roman Day for free, while adult tickets start from £17.
