Saffie Osborne Wins Tote Chester Cup Aboard Metier

Published on 12 May 2023

Saffie Osborne swooped late aboard Metier to win a thrilling renewal of the Tote Chester Cup on the final day of the Boodles May Festival!

The prestigious race lived up to its billing with a sensational showing on the Roodee, with Osborne timing a Metier surge to perfection and pipping Zoffee near the line to claim the big prize for trainer Harry Fry and winning connections.

Elsewhere, Ryan Moore cemented his place as top jockey across the three days of the Boodles May Festival again, riding Point Lonsdale and Banderas to success in the Ire-Incentive, It Pays To Buy Irish Huxley Stakes and the Boodles Maiden Darley Stakes, respectively. That made it five 2023 festival winners.

Jim Crowley got his name on the board with two successes – in the CAA Stellar Earl Grosvenor Handicap Stakes on Revich and then the Tote Fantasy, Who’s In Your Stable Chester Plate Handicap Stakes (for the Bobby McAlpine Memorial Cup) on Zinc White. Hollie Doyle, meanwhile, registered a winner on Pride of America in the Precision Facades Handicap Stakes.

Thank-you to everybody in attendance at this year’s Boodles May Festival and to all our partners and sponsors for their continued support.
